Case Study: A Bradford Resident Loses Their Keys

It was just another regular week when I received a call from one of my regular customers in Bradford. They had found themselves in a bit of a predicament—they had lost the keys to their front door but still had access to the back door. Naturally, they reached out to me for assistance, and I was more than willing to help them out. Little did I know that this job would hold a surprising twist!

Initially, the plan was straightforward. I could have easily collected the keys to the back door and made my way to the property. However, as fate would have it, the property happened to be closer to my location than the keys themselves. So, I decided to take the more direct route and head straight to the property with the intention of picking the lock on the front door open, which seemed like the logical and efficient option.

However, as is often the case in this line of work, there was a twist waiting for me. You see, I had been told that the front door was wooden, but upon my arrival, I was greeted by a UPVC door that featured PAS24 security handles. These handles are nothing short of excellent when it comes to security. They are designed to deter burglars, making it challenging for them to tamper with the cylinder lock. In essence, they’re a formidable addition to home security. That’s their job, after all. But as a locksmith, it also meant I had my work cut out for me.

The Challenge of PAS24 Handles

I couldn’t help but admire the security these PAS24 handles provided to the property. They were doing exactly what they were designed to do—keeping intruders out. But as a locksmith facing a locked door, I had to figure out a way to navigate this security feature.

Double-check for Peace of Mind

Before diving into the task, I decided to give the team at the office a quick ring. I wanted to make sure that I was at the correct property. The last thing I wanted was to successfully open the door, change the lock, and then realise I had been at the wrong house! Fortunately, everything checked out, and I was ready to proceed.

Getting In

Usually, opening a UPVC door is a straightforward process, either by picking (my preferred method) or drilling. However, these PAS24 handles threw a curveball my way—they couldn’t be drilled; they had to be picked. Luckily, the cylinder lock on this particular door was of the standard variety, not the anti-snap type, which made my job a tad easier.

After several minutes of careful work and determination, I successfully gained entry to the property and no damage was caused to the lock or the handle. I couldn’t have been happier to report ‘another successful job’ completed.
